Are you currently experiencing labels that are lifting away from your product or substrate? Lifting can give your customer or consumer a false perception of the quality of your product and could potentially lead to a bad brand image. It is very important to get to the bottom of what exactly is causing the lifting issue. The issue could lie within the adhesive, face, liner, surface area, or environmental conditions. It is imperative that you work with an experienced team that understands that each adhesive construction to “Fit” to its end application.
A few common issues with label application may include wrinkling, tearing, lifting, or curling. Wrinkling is best indicated when the end user witnesses folds or ridges within the label. Commonly this is a result of using an incorrect face material or an application error. Tearing may be an indication of an end user trying to reposition a label after it is applied or when choosing a paper face. A quick solution that commonly solves tearing is to use a vinyl, polyester, or polypropylene face material. Flagging is a slight bulge along the outer edge of a label. A label may flag if it is not the correct size/circumference or the adhesive coat weight may be incorrect. Finally, lifting may occur due to poor adhesive performance, application error, environmental conditions, or the face material does not match the product. Lifting is a more difficult problem to solve, but is most commonly corrected with a change of face and adhesive. A small percentage of lifting is solved by changing the release liner or application process.
