3Sigma’s adhesives are being utilized in many different market segments: Industrial, Business Forms, Food & Beverage, Health & Beauty, Graphics, Automotive and Medical. Each application has its own specific adhesive function so choosing the right adhesive technology is crucial. The advantage in working with 3Sigma is that we offer three adhesive technologies under one roof and can custom formulate and adhesive to “Fit” needs, not ours. 3Simga offers Hot-Melt, Emulsion and Solvent coating capabilities each of which have their own advantages and disadvantages in performance and cost.
Rubber-Based Adhesives are typically low cost, however they are affected by oxidation and UV light and are used as
a general purpose adhesive. RubberBased adhesives offer higher initial bond, but have a tendency for adhesive ooze. Removable Rubber-Based adhesive tend to increase in adhesion and can become permanent. Acrylic-based are cross-linked and are more expensive, but have a higher resistance to high heat and oxidation. They have a lower initial tack & higher curing time, however they are less prone to adhesive ooze and will maintain a consistent level of removability when the application calls for a removable label.
Emulsion based adhesives are commonly used for packaging & labeling applications. Emulsion adhesives function well in both permanent and removable applications. The adhesive offers a hick tack and high peel strength. Emulsion based adhesives have a higher resistance to UV, Heat and Oxidation, but are more expensive in cost. They also exhibit less adhesive ooze and sticky edges. Emulsion adhesives can be rubber based or acrylic and can be utilized on many different substrates.
Solvent adhesives are typically rubber or acrylic based and can function well in both permanent and removable applications. Solvent adhesives tend to be the most expensive adhesive choice, They provide superior peel and sheer strength in comparison to Hot-Melt & Emulsion based adhesives. Solvent based adhesives have a high resistance to moisture, UV, heat and oxidation. Solvent adhesives are used in industrial foam tapes, sealing, gasketing, sound deadening and glass applications.
